Pérez-Llorca is preparing to establish itself in Lisbon with its own office and team. With this move, the firm continues to expand beyond Spain’s borders as part of its growth and internationalisation strategy.
Pérez-Llorca will have an entire building in a prime location of Lisbon, specifically at Rua Barata Salgueiro 21. It is a unique building of more than 2,000 m2 that will be adapted to the firm’s needs. Refurbishment work is expected to be completed by the end of the first half of 2024.
With this step, the firm will secure a physical environment in which it can build its team and practice gradually and without restrictions on space.
The Lisbon office, where Portuguese law will be practised, will aim to increase the work that the firm has already been carrying out in this market in order to cover the entire Iberian Peninsula and build upon the synergies that arise in both countries to be able to offer clients and potential clients comprehensive advice on their transactions and disputes. Likewise, this office will also serve as a bridge to strengthen the firm’s relationship with the Brazilian market and other Portuguese-speaking jurisdictions.
This new office is Pérez-Llorca’s fifth outside Spain after those located in the three global financial capitals of London, New York and Singapore, and the regulatory capital of Europe, Brussels.
To start shaping this project, in June the firm brought in Gonçalo Godinho, a partner with more than 20 years of international experience in the Brazilian, Portuguese, British and US markets. Godinho will combine his work in Pérez-Llorca’s international project with the development of the firm’s strategy in Portuguese-speaking markets and advising clients on commercial matters, mainly in the energy and infrastructure sectors. He resides in Lisbon.
