Our German Desk at the 9th “German Desk Latin America” Symposium

Our senior associate, Thomas E. Heather, representing our German Desk, attended on May 26 and 27 the 9th “German Desk Latin America” Symposium organized by the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (Munich Chapter and Alta Bavaria) IHK – Industrie-und Handelskammer – Bayern und Oberbayern) in Munich, Germany.
We were the only Mexican firm present at the event, which was attended by around 50 people, including German companies and firms and lawyers from Latin American firms, mainly Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia.
Topics discussed in the roundtables were related to German investment in Latin America, transatlantic trade, current developments in corporate sanctions law in Germany, general trends in compliance and intellectual property.
Business opportunities were detected with mid-market companies (mittelstand) interested in expanding their operations in Mexico, since despite the political and economic uncertainty; Our country continues to be an open economy that is not over-regulated compared to countries like Brazil and Argentina and due to our proximity to the United States and Canada. Among the interested and active industries in Mexico are the already well-known German automotive industry, manufacturing, chemical, pharmaceutical and renewable energy industries.
