Profile
Laura Ruiz joined Pérez-Llorca in 2007 and made partner in January 2021. Over the years, she has advised domestic and foreign clients on all types of civil and commercial litigation and arbitration. Recently, her work has focused on insolvency and corporate law. In 2013, Laura went on secondment to the Stockholm headquarters of the law firm Mannheimer Swartling.

Experience
Insolvency
Laura’s insolvency practice covers both advice to debtors (advice on pre-insolvency stages, judicial endorsement of refinancing agreements, preparation, filing and processing of insolvency proceedings) and their shareholders and directors, such as advice to creditors in different phases of the insolvency proceedings.
Laura has represented clients in all types of insolvency-related legal proceedings: challenging the inventory and the list of creditors, rescissory actions and contract termination proceedings. Likewise, she been involved in corporate actions within insolvency proceedings (challenging corporate resolutions) and in the liability phase of the insolvency proceedings (either defending the interests of the directors or the creditors).
Additionally, Laura advises, alongside the Firm’s transactional teams, on the sale of production units and assets in general, whether in the common phase (with judicial authorisation) or in the liquidation phase in any of its forms (auction, direct sale or dation in payment).
The specific sectors she has provided advice on include engineering, real estate, energy, airlines, government concessions for roads, tourism, retail, and shipyards.
Litigation
Laura has advised on a wide range of civil and commercial litigation related to energy, insurance, sponsorship contracts, sponsorship letters, financial derivatives, construction, distribution, corporate directors’ liability, challenging corporate resolutions, real estate and corporate sales, and tort law.
Arbitration
Laura also has experience in international and domestic, institutional and ad hoc arbitrations. She has taken part in significant domestic arbitrations before the Madrid Court of Arbitration (CAM) and the Spanish Court of Arbitration (CEA) related to construction contracts, engineering and financial derivatives. At an international level, Laura has taken part in significant arbitrations before the ICC International Court of Arbitration, mainly on corporate and engineering law.
Academic and Publishing Collaborations
Laura has also taught classes at the Madrid Bar Association, for the Master’s Degree for Access to the Legal Profession at Universidad Carlos III (Insolvency Law) and for the Master’s Degree for Access to the Legal Profession at IE Law School (Procedural Law).
Laura has coached Universidad Carlos III’s team for the international competition Moot Madrid and also participates in the competition as an arbitrator.

“Código de Arbitraje” (Aranzadi, 2017), a volume compiling and commenting on the provisions and regulations applicable to arbitration.
