The video games industry has established itself as an economically important sector both nationally and internationally. In Spain, the annual turnover of this sector already exceeds 1.7 billion euros; and the industry shows year-on-year growth of almost 20%; moreover, the industry has more than 650 developers. The depth and variety of the sector, the high growth rates, together with the Spanish Government’s commitment to the sector through the Spain Digital 2025 agenda and the “Spain Audiovisual Hub of Europe” Plan, have made the video game industry an attractive sector for private investment. This has led to an increase in the number and volume of investments in the sector, mainly through mergers and acquisitions.
