On 12 May 2022, the new Vertical Restraints Regulation was published in the Official Journal of the European Union, replacing the 2010 text. In addition, the European Commission has published new Vertical Restraints Guidelines.
The Vertical Restraints Regulation entered into force on 1 June 2022 and will expire on 31 May 2034, although a transitional period from its entry into force until 31 May 2023 is provided for those agreements in force on 31 May 2022 that are in compliance with the 2010 Regulation but do not meet the requirements set out in the Vertical Restraints Regulation.
