In order to anticipate the challenges and opportunities posed by Artificial Intelligence (AI) to business and to stimulate debate on regulatory developments, at Pérez-Llorca we are producing a series of publications that seek to explore in depth how AI is transforming these areas and what it means for legal practice, business policymaking and society as a whole.
Artificial Intelligence: The first AI Act is here. Key Aspects
The fifth issue of our publication series on AI. In this issue, we analyse the most significant aspects of the adopted text, the legal and business implications, and offer some practical recommendations on how to align the economic activities of any affected company with the Act.
Artificial Intelligence: algorithms and regulated sectors
The fourth issue of our series of publications on artificial intelligence. On this occasion, we analyse its interaction in three regulated sectors: (i) in financialmarkets, highlighting how its integration in high frequency trading (HFT) has transformed the dynamics of these markets by implementing fast and accurate decisions; (ii) in GreenTech, analysing how the current text of the AI Act consistently integrates the principle of sustainability in various aspects of its regulation; and (iii) the influence of AI on the market: competition aspects.
Artificial Intelligence: The interaction of artificial intelligence with the protection of personal data
The third instalment in our series of publications on Artificial Intelligence (AI). We look at how the interaction between AI and personal data protection is being addressed by European data protection regulators, and in particular, how the European Data Protection Board has assessed the future AI Act; we will also analyse how the future AI Act correlates with the current personal data protection rules.
Artificial Intelligence: Copyright, patents and deepfakes
The second issue of our series of publications on artificial intelligence (AI). In this text, we analyse the impact of this technology on intellectual property rights, patents and self-image rights, in particular due to the emergence of generative artificial intelligence (“GenAI”).
Artificial Intelligence: What is it and how is it regulated?
In this first publication, we will explain how this technology works, in order to be able to understand its legal challenges, as well as the basic pillars of the Artificial Intelligence Regulation, the first multidisciplinary regulation that aims to establish basic rules for this technology. The regulatory process, which has had to be substantially revised due to the new generation of AI, to take account of foundation models and generative tools, is proving to be a complex one, which we will follow in future updates.
