Pérez-Llorca names five new partners

Juan Oñate joins the firm as a partner of the Corporate practice. Isabel Moya, Javier García Marrero, Alberto Ibort and Rafael Díaz are promoted as new partners of the firm

Pérez-Llorca has announced today the appointment of five new partners at its offices in Madrid, increasing the total number of partners to 53.

Juan Oñate joins Pérez-Llorca’s Corporate team to strengthen the restructuring practice from a transactional point of view. Before joining Pérez-Llorca, Juan worked at national and international firms, where he participated in the market’s most significant debt restructuring processes, in close collaboration with the various stakeholders involved, as well as conducting the associated homologation processes. He has advised a variety of different clients including listed companies, major domestic groups, foreign investors, funds and banks. He holds a degree in Law from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and has more than 16 years of experience in his field. He completed an Advanced Programme in Legal Practice at the IE Business School and an Advanced Programme in Bankruptcy Administration from the Fundación Derecho y Empresa (FIDE). Furthermore, he features in Best Lawyers® in the practices of ‘Insolvency and Reorganization Law’ and ‘Litigation.’

This appointment comes alongside the promotions of Isabel Moya, Javier García Marrero, Alberto Ibort and Rafael Díaz, who become partners of the firm.

Isabel Moya joined Pérez-Llorca in 2009, and holds a degree in Law and Business Administration from the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. She is an expert in Labour and Social Security Law, and advises on all aspects of this practice area,  with a special focus on the processing of all kinds of restructuring procedures, leading negotiations with trade unions, carrying out labour audits and designing employee remuneration schemes. Isabel also advises on all forms of labour issues that arise within the context of transactions led by the firm’s Corporate practice, and is an expert in the processing of internal investigations within companies. Isabel is also a lecturer at various Spanish educational institutions and gives conferences and seminars to Executive MBA students at Columbia.

Javier García Marrero, a Senior Judge on leave of absence, joined in 2014 as Counsel in Pérez-Llorca’s Litigation and Arbitration practice. He holds a degree from the Universidad de La Laguna, where he received the Special Prize for Academic Achievement upon graduation. He became a Court Clerk in 1997 and two years later, he became a judge after passing the regular state examination. He is highly experienced in complex insolvency proceedings, especially regarding settlements, defence against clawback options and the sale of production units and important assets in the context of insolvency proceedings. He features in various legal directories such as Chambers Europe in the practice of ‘Restructuring/Insolvency: Insolvency’, as well as in Best Lawyers® in the practices of ‘Insolvency and Reorganization Law’, ‘Intellectual Property Law’ and ‘Litigation’. He also has significant academic and publishing experience. He has contributed to numerous publications on insolvency, and is a lecturer on various programmes at prestigious universities.

Alberto Ibort joined Pérez-Llorca in 2011. He holds a degree in Law and Business Administration from the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and an Executive Master’s Degree in Business Law from the Centro de Estudios Garrigues & Harvard Law School. He is an expert in Land Planning and the Environment, with proven experience in projects involving residential, commercial, hotel, logistical and industrial land and assets, including drafting urban planning instruments and advising on judicial proceedings. He is a regular lecturer in urban planning, administrative and environmental matters at prestigious educational institutions including, amongst others, the CEU IAM Business School and the Real Estate Business School. He has also contributed to numerous specialist publications. He has featured for many years in the Chambers Europe legal directory in the practice of ‘Planning’, and in Best Lawyers® in the practices of ‘Environmental Law’ and ‘Land Use and Zoning Law’.

Rafael Díaz began practising law at Pérez-Llorca in 2010. From 2012 until 2014, he worked as a legal counsel at Barclays Bank, providing commercial and regulatory advice on stock markets and restructuring and refinancing.  He rejoined Pérez-Llorca in March 2014, focusing his practice on corporate transactions involving public and private entities which are subject to special administrative regulation. In addition, he is an expert in the mergers and acquisitions of companies that own regulated assets, especially in the energy, financial and insurance sectors. He holds a degree in Law and Business Administration from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and features in the legal directory Best Lawyers® in the practice of ‘Administrative Law’.
