Pérez-Llorca joins the #SpainFirstFellowship to provide legal advice for the transition from the world of sport to the world of work

22/05/2024

The Royal Spanish Rugby Federation continues to add partners to the #SpainFirstFellowship, a programme dedicated to training and supporting professional athletes, starting with rugby players, introducing them to the world of work and facilitating their professional reinvention with the help of major allies from the business world.

The signing of the agreement with the prestigious Spanish law firm Pérez-Llorca adds an important asset to the programme in terms of training in legal aspects, basic knowledge of the rights, obligations and responsibilities of all citizens, as well as in-depth knowledge of everything related to sports law.

The inclusion of this important legal partner represents a structural improvement of the #SpainFirstFellowship in its commitment to enriching the rugby players’ journeys and helping them to develop their full potential.

Pérez-Llorca’s support is important for the comprehensive training itinerary we are offering. We consider it essential that our athletes know their rights and responsibilities as well as the legal framework in which they operate personally and professionally; in this case, everything related to sports law,” stated Margarita Ortiz, designer of the programme and director of the Royal Spanish Rugby Federation.

It is an honour for us to join the #SpainFirstFellowship programme and to be able to guide our country’s athletes in different legal disciplines to help them in their working life once they leave elite competition,” said Pedro Pérez-Llorca, senior partner of Pérez-Llorca.

The experimental pilot launched in March with the Spain Women’s National Rugby Sevens Team has demonstrated the effectiveness of the system in identifying and retaining national talent, guiding them throughout their sporting careers and, in parallel, providing them with professional, holistic, comprehensive and measurable support. This programme is already helping players to access and achieve education, employment and personal development opportunities while pursuing and achieving excellence in professional rugby, facilitating professional reinvention once their sporting career ends.

The #SpainFirstFellowship has been developed in collaboration with the High Council of Sports (Consejo Superior de Deportes) and is supported by major partners from the professional and business world, such as KPMG, Microsoft-Founderz, LinkedIn, LHH (The Adecco Group), Fundación máshumano, Alumne LMS, Ágora News, Universidad de Comillas and 8Belts, who are now joined by Pérez-Llorca.
