Pérez-Llorca launches operations in Lisbon, hiring six new partners and a counsel for the new office

With these new hires, the firm now has a team of almost 20 professionals from different practice areas to serve its clients in Lisbon

Just two months after announcing its intention to start operating in Portugal, Pérez-Llorca has taken another step forward in its internationalisation strategy and in the process of setting up in Lisbon by hiring six new partners, a counsel and a group of ten lawyers.

As a result, the firm now boasts almost twenty professionals in Portugal who are experts in different matters. This team, coordinated by Gonçalo Capela Godinho, who joined Pérez-Llorca in July, will enable the firm to further increase its capacity in the Iberian Peninsula to advise clients on their matters and disputes.

The firm’s aim is to continue to grow in this market and to add talent to further strengthen this multidisciplinary team capable of meeting the needs and demands of its clients.

Rodrigo Falcão Nogueira mainly focuses his practice on commercial law, specifically the areas of corporate law and capital markets. Until now, he was the partner in charge of the Corporate/M&A team of a Portuguese firm which is part of an international network. He has extensive experience in M&A transactions and private equity investments, in multi-jurisdictional corporate restructurings for multinationals and international investment institutions, as well as in corporate governance and corporate finance matters.

Carlos Vaz de Almeida was the head of the Finance, Energy and Infrastructure area of a Portuguese firm belonging to an international network. He has developed his career in the private and public sector and specialises in banking and finance transactions, specifically asset and project financing, as well as debt restructuring and NPL portfolio acquisitions. He also has considerable experience in advising on investments in the energy and natural resources, transport, logistics and infrastructure sectors.

Before joining Pérez-Llorca, Manuel Cordeiro Ferreira led the Capital Markets and Financial Services team of a Portuguese firm which is part of an international network. His professional activity has focused both in Lisbon and London on corporate law and capital markets, areas in which he has extensive experience in M&A transactions, takeover bids, securities distribution and structured finance. He also specialises in structuring and advising collective investment schemes, especially in real estate, and in financial regulation.

Inês Palma Ramalho was a partner in the Finance and Governance department and a specialised member of the Fintech and Compliance teams of the firm where she used to work. She specialises in legal advice and advising on matters related to the supervision and resolution of banks and financial companies, the acquisition of qualifying shareholdings, authorisation and registration procedures for new entities and fit and proper assessments, corporate governance, credit intermediation and negotiation of various types of financing. She also has extensive experience in providing legal assistance to clients in corporate compliance matters, such as risk detection and management, auditing, internal control and regulatory compliance for credit and financial institutions. She has also played an important role in the Portuguese fintech ecosystem, especially in the area of credit and payments, as well as in the creation of real estate investment funds and private equity funds before the Comissão do Mercado de Valores Mobiliários, and in providing legal advice to investment fund management companies and their unitholders.

Inês Arruda has forged her career in leading Portuguese and international firms. Before joining Pérez-Llorca, she was the partner in charge of the Employment Law department of the firm where she worked. She has more than 20 years of experience advising  Portuguese and international companies from different sectors on various aspects of employment law, such as employment litigation, corporate restructuring, disciplinary and administrative proceedings, collective bargaining, pension plans and stock option plans, social security, as well as on the employment law aspects of M&A transactions, asset sales and employment law due diligence.

Rita Leandro Vasconcelos has developed her career in leading Portuguese and international law firms. Before joining Pérez-Llorca she was a partner in a well-known Portuguese firm specialising in EU and competition law. In her over 20 years of practice, she has advised multinationals on restrictive competition practices in various sectors such as banking, infrastructure, transport and pharmaceuticals, among others. Her professional experience also includes designing and analysing distribution systems, analysing pricing and discounting systems, and conducting competition law compliance programmes. She also advises on complex merger transactions, including multi-jurisdictional notifications, state aid and EU and competition law litigation before national courts and the CJEU (Court of Justice of the European Union).

Nuno Faria has joined Pérez-Llorca’s Portuguese team as Counsel. Faria has over 20 years of experience advising on cross-border transactions in M&A, project finance and banking, with a particular focus on the infrastructure and energy sectors. Some of his clients have been major funds, multinationals and financial institutions. With an eminently international profile, he has developed his career in leading Portuguese and Brazilian law firms.

Alongside these professionals, a group of ten lawyers of different specialities and seniorities will join the firm, who, coordinated by Gonçalo Capela Godinho, will begin to shape Pérez-Llorca’s Lisbon office.
