Pérez-Llorca today announced the promotion of five new partners from various practice areas: Rafael Fernández, Jorge Masía, José Ángel Nabal, Ana María Rodríguez and José Luis Romeu. These appointments strengthen Pérez-Llorca’s support for its internal talent and recognise the outstanding performance and commitment of these professionals to the firm and its clients. In addition to these promotions, Daniel Olábarri has been appointed Counsel to the Tax practice area.
Rafael Fernández, new partner in the Insurance and Reinsurance practice, joined Pérez-Llorca as counsel in 2020. He has more than 13 years of experience in the insurance sector, advising Spanish and international insurance and reinsurance companies and other entities related to this sector on various commercial transactions, regulatory issues, as well as dispute resolution. Prior to joining the firm, Fernández was Vice President and Legal Counsel for a major reinsurer in Luxembourg and worked at two prestigious international law firms. He currently holds the position of Senior Vice Chair on the Insurance Committee of the International Bar Association (IBA) and is a Member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Young Professionals in Insurance (AJPS).
Jorge Masía, who also joined Pérez-Llorca as a counsel in the Competition practice area in 2020, has a hybrid profile covering economics and law. With more than 18 years of experience advising Spanish and multinational companies on complex litigation matters, he has extensive knowledge of different business sectors such as energy, finance, new technologies and telecommunications. Masía holds degrees in Law, Business Administration and Management, Economics and Political Science and Administration, and has, among other postgraduate degrees, an LL.M. from the Northwestern University School of Law in Chicago and another LL.M. from the Instituto de Empresa; he was number one in his class at both institutions.
José Ángel Nabal joined Pérez-Llorca in 2014, where he has spent almost his entire professional career. In 2018 he completed an LL.M. at Columbia University (New York), after which he worked as an international associate in the New York office of Simpson Thacher and subsequently rejoined the firm’s Madrid office. Nabal specialises in advising national and international investment funds and companies on complex real estate and commercial transactions with a real estate component, such as joint ventures, investment agreements, real estate development, acquisitions and divestments. He has been recognised in the Real Estate area of different legal directories such as Chambers Europe and Best Lawyers®.
Ana María Rodríguez has spent her entire professional career in Pérez-Llorca’s Public Law practice area, which she joined in 2012. An expert in litigation and European Union law, she advises both public and private entities on regulatory and civil matters before Spanish and European courts, as well as before European bodies such as the European Commission and the ECB. She is recognised by Legal 500 in the practice of ‘EU and Competition’ and by Best Lawyers® in ‘Administrative Law’ and ‘European Union Law’.
José Luis Romeu joined Pérez-Llorca in 2017 as a lawyer in the Corporate practice. Specialising in commercial law, his career has a strong international flavour as, in addition to an LL.M. in International Business and Economic Law from Georgetown University, he worked in the firm’s London office in 2019 and 2020 and is also a Solicitor of England and Wales. Since joining the firm, he has advised domestic and foreign clients on all types of commercial transactions, and in particular on major M&A and private equity transactions, creation and dissolution of joint ventures and restructurings. He is recognised by Legal 500 for the practice of Private Equity.
In addition, Pérez-Llorca has appointed Daniel Olábarri as counsel to the Tax practice area. He has spent his entire professional career at the firm, which he joined in 2012. Olábarri specialises in tax litigation, having participated in numerous appeals and claims before the contentious-administrative courts (High Courts of Justice, the National High Court and the Supreme Court) and the economic-administrative courts, as well as in management, inspection, collection and sanctioning proceedings against the state, regional and local tax authorities.
