Pérez-Llorca brings in judge on leave of absence Javier García Marrero

10/06/2014

Pérez-Llorca has brought in Javier García Marrero, a judge on leave of absence, as a new counsel in the department of Litigation and Arbitration of the firm.

García Marrero has a degree in law and a Graduation Award for Special Distinction from Universidad La Laguna (Tenerife). After taking PhD courses in the Department of International and Procedural Law of the university, he became a Court Clerk (Secretario Judicial) in 1997. Two years later, he became a judicial officer through the regular state examination and after specialising in commercial law matters, in 2007 García Marrero became a sitting judge at the Commercial Court no. 5 in Madrid. Before specialising in commercial law, he served as a judge at the mixed courts in Arona (Tenerife) and Quart de Poblet (Valencia) as well as at the court of first instance of Almería and the labour court in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Furthermore, García Marrero’s teaching facet also stands out: He is the Co-director of the Insolvency Lecture Series at IE Law School Executive Education, where he has also served as the Academic Director for the National Congress on Insolvency Law and has lectured for various programmes on corporate law. In addition, he is a member of the faculty for the External Practicum at ICADE, the Master’s on Insolvency Administration at UNED, the Master’s on Company Insolvency at CEU, and for the special training course for Insolvency Administrators at the Centre for Studies and Research at the Madrid Bar Association (ICAM).

The appointment of García Marrero takes place just two short months after Ana Ribó, partner in charge of the Litigation and Arbitration practice of the firm’s Barcelona office, joined Pérez-Llorca.

For the firm’s managing partner, Pedro Pérez-Llorca, “it is an honour to have a high calibre professional such as Garcia Marrero on our team. I believe that signing him will not only boost the activity and help the firm’s arbitration and litigation department grow, but it will nurture all lawyers who work here through his knowledge and experience.”
